April 2022 Status & Roadmap

Hello Champions!

While we are deep in active development of the game, we want to provide some updates to the current state of the game, and what’s coming up next. Our teams are hard at work on Champions: Ascension, and we know you’ve got questions so we’re here to provide some answers and transparency. Without further ado, let’s get into it.

Gameplay and Features[1]

Champions: Ascension is built on the Unity Platform, and we have a working game client where our current testing allows for combat between champions. We recently brought on additional dev team members to help flesh out the PVP combat aspects of the game. We are releasing a Dev Diary update soon that will go over the progress that is being made in this area. Our goal is not only to make the game work, but most importantly make it fun and intuitive.

In a parallel development path, we have a team who is also actively working on elements of our world environment. This includes places beyond the Arena where you will be able to visit with your Prime Eternal. It also includes interactive NPCs which will further enhance the player’s ability to be brought into the world of Massina and will have unique functions in gameplay itself.

You will be seeing regular updates from the team building out the World of Massina itself. We are working on more ways to provide you early access to aspects of this game world, so that when the client is available you will be able to be fully engaged. We just finished Season 1 of the Lore, and are actively releasing Season 2 over the coming months. Stay tuned to our Medium blog and social accounts for more updates.

Game Economy[1]

We understand the economics of the game are top of mind, which is why it is important to get it right upon release. This means that our information related to tokenomics, staking, and the release of the whitepaper is in an extended period of due diligence. That being said, we are optimizing for a release on a gasless network, with an accessibility focus, that would allow for easy card to crypto transactions.

There are a multitude of reasons for this change in timeline, compared to our earliest roadmaps. However, one of the biggest factors is ensuring regulatory compliance and addressing additional security concerns that have occurred more broadly in the NFT game space. We must also have this focus while trying to provide accessibility to a worldwide audience. Reducing friction for a mainstream audience is something we are adhering to during this development process.

While we are not able to comment on timelines for progress on tokenomics at this stage, the entire team is working on it with the utmost urgency. It is important to note that this has not impacted active development of the game itself, which is why we will be continuing our regular game progress leaks as development diaries over the coming months.

Community[1]

While it may go without saying, we would like to just comment that we think we have one of the best communities in the entire NFT space. We are incredibly grateful and excited to have you on this journey with us! That is why our community updates remain a priority for the team. We have some top-tier talent working on this game, and we want you to get to know them.

While we will be altering our previous weekly cadence to fit more within our development schedule, know that we are continuing our AMA series on Discord with even more members of the development team.

You will continue to see and hear from us on a regular basis, and we will continue to find new ways to provide interaction on the server between fellow Champions and more developers from Jam City.

We also wanted to call out some community initiatives we are proud to support and incubate. First off, we’ve seen high-quality fan art from Penpen86, Qryon, Sphinx, and more in our first community led art contest. We’re thrilled by the progress being made by the Champions: Ascension Codex which will serve as a community run Wiki about the game. Finally, we’ve seen community members rally together to develop the Prime Minds Podcast, which can be listened to on YouTube.

But wait, we have one more thing. We are thrilled to be announcing a new piece of physical merchandise to all Prime Eternal holders, 1 per wallet address.

For any holders as of June 1st, 2022 we will be offering the ability to claim a Champions branded item later this Summer! In June we will have a community poll open where you can vote on either a Champions branded Snapback Hat, or Champions branded T-Shirt. The winning voted item will then be available to claim via our website in July for distribution this Summer.

Game development is a long, and arduous process. Serving an active and enthusiastic community makes it all worth it. We simply can’t thank you enough.

What’s Next?[1]

We are working on multiple aspects of the game at the same time, so it will be difficult to forecast what specific features you will see first, but we wanted to give you an update on what is in active development:

  • Player Arena combat using fully rigged characters with battle moves and weapons unique to each of our 12 families.
  • Fully realized 3D world with unique buildings and structures with their own use in game along with player owned land and buildings.
  • Social functions including player voice communication in approved social spaces, along with interactive mini-games in our game client.
  • Tokenomics that will include multiple tokens along with staking rewards, battle rewards, and breeding mechanics.
  • Economic structure that incorporates card to crypto transactions allow for fiat transactions increasing accessibility

The entire team here at Jam City is excited about what we are working on. We have some incredible work already, and will be sharing more with you over the coming weeks and months. We look forward to chatting with you on our social channels, including Discord.
