Description
Cefaphro, a Vigilant that is tasked with protecting the Cauldron of Fire. "Gatekeepers created the Vigilants, who could see farther than any other being."[1] Vigilants are celestials.
Spotlight
In Champions: Eye of the beholder - Cefaphro "had been the lone Guardian for some time."[1] He had a partner who was a gatekeeper named Lissa, who "had been assassinated by the servants of Maiax during the Night of the 7622."[1] For Cefaphro, it is an honor to be guarding the "gate between dimensions. The Guardians are entrusted with the sacred duty of keeping it safe.”[1] Cefaphro failed his task and his "brothers were decimated"[1] during a great battle. He is only one of the remaining few vigilants as many of his brothers died in that battle. That incident now gets Cefaphro to "attend the Gate, to make sure it shall never happen again."[1] It is his soul’s only remaining purpose.
Champions: No Sacrifice Too Great… Part Two - Cefaphro and his fellow guardian Paxa encounter Giotto and Vitus as Giotto had come to "face the Trials of Atonement." [2]Cefaphro quickly realises that there are "members of The Shadow"[2] giving chase. Cefaphro and Paxa faced their adversaries head on and "the might of the Guardians was on full display here as their movements were akin to that of a great conductor, calling forth a fiery symphony of destruction."[2] After the guardians defeated their foe, Cefaphro could sense "something about the Emperor’s companion. He is not entirely what he seems."[2] He is not sure whether for good or ill.
In Champions: The Rose of Naveea — Part 1 - We see Cefaphro finds himself distracted as "His calm and consistent surveillance was sometimes broken by thoughts and feelings about his new partner."[3] He is approached by Renna, a Prime eternal who is a guild member of the Wardens of Massina who provides him details of a homicide of Luxio who was seeking “A book called the Tome of War.”[3] "Cefaphro understood immediately the grave threat this presented."[3] Cefaphro seeks the advice of the high priest and Emilie to investigate further. Emilie tells him that she had a vision of “The wharves. Oil and algae.”[3] He sets out with Paxa to the wharves where he finds the inquisitors discuss Luxio's corpse. Cefaphro finds out “They have detected Arcane Essence! His killer was a Librarian!”
In Champions: The Rose of Naveea Part 2 - Cefaphro and Paxa fight Vitras that "wore the robes of Maiax Shadow Assassins."[4] They were ambushed, but ended up defeating their attackers. They then stake out Loxio's house where they talked and Cefaphro learns about Paxa's dark past filled with regret and shame. Cefaphro tells Paxa that “We have similar wounds in our hearts. It is good that we tend them together.”[4] They then see Tinaris the Arcane High Priestess who is after the Tome of War. A battle takes place and Loxio's home is reduced to rubble. They give chase down the street where Tinaris is finally captured after an epic battle where Tinaris ends up with both arms amputated. Cefaphro later reveals to Paxa that he in fact did obtain the “The Tome of War,” in the rubble. Paxa asks Cefaphro what he plans to do with it and Cefaphro responds "We alone can keep it secret, and keep it safe.” [4]
